Branding/ Visual Identity

99% Invisible Podcast Ad

These are two designs I did for a podcast I listen too called 99%. I wanted to replicate the style they use, I found it to be very clean and was closely attached to the design they like to talk about. The above image is the banner to their website and bellow are the two designs I did, one digital (the left) and one print (the print).

7 Sins Design – Greedy Grounds

For this design we were given a task of creating a drink with a relation to one of the 7 sins. I chose to make a coffee related design about greedy. The symbols in the background are the biblical symbol used to show greed and I chose to use a design of a fox as they are typically the animal tied to feelings of greed. The color scheme of a primary yellow is also related to the sin, as the color of yellow is described as the color of greed due to gold.

YATESPEED Sticker Designs

These are stickers I designed for a local car importation company, Yatespeed. Part of the design was to include a QR code and I wanted to make different designs with it being different sizes. Each of these stickers are sized to be actual bumper stickers for a car, since their main audience are people who like stickers of this size.

Initials Logo Design

This is a design for a logo using my initials, JM. I wanted to make something that reminded me of a futuristic brand or something that would be on the side of a gundam. Th alternate colors I picked also show this as most gundams use a color scheme related to the primary colors alongside white and black

Album Cover Design

This is an album cover design for a project I made for the musician, Shizuka Miura. I wanted to make a cover that incorporated multiple aspects of her other cover designs throughout her time as a musician. She was previously a ball and joint doll maker with a lot of her covers having eerie and dark aesthetics to them, relating to her poetry. I also chose to implement a sort of paper strip design on the side, commonly seen on Japanese prints of records and cd’s to give information about the music you are buying.

Exotica Album Design

For this project we were tasked with creating 4 distinct exotica albums covers similar to what you would see in the 50’s and 60’s. I wanted my work to center around the strange fonts and imagery these covers would tend to have. Another aspect I wanted to include into my work was each one having its own unique color palette, as albums of that time tended to be broad in what colors they used. Bellow you can find a slideshow of all 4.

Matchbook Design

The goal of this project was to create 3 distinct matchbooks you would be able to find in a tiki bar during the late 1950’s. I found that most businesses during this time tended to keep color schemes in their designs to a minimum, as less colors used in the printer meant more money saved when making them. I also wanted each matchbook to have its own visual identity with a large aspect or visual motifs at the time. The first being tiki heads, the second being fire dances, and the last being a combination of hula ladies and mermaids.
